Naima Bouteldja suggests that niquab wearing women are being betrayed not only by secularists but also by fellow Muslims. In her article France's false 'battle of the veil' Bouteldja finds that many women have experienced a long spiritual journey before they begin wearing the niquab and that this is being ignored by a state that is using the argument of patriarchy, national interests and secularisation to distract from its own right wing agenda.
